La oritavancina es un lipoglucopéptido con actividad antibiótica de amplio espectro frente a patógenos Gram-positivos, como estafilococos, incluidos Staphylococcus aureus resistente a la meticilina (MRSA), estreptococos y enterococos.
Este antimicrobiano provoca la muerte celular al inhibir la síntesis de la pared celular, así como al despolarizar y permeabilizar la membrana celular de los organismos susceptibles.
